Alocasia 3” rare Low Rider self watering pot

The Alocasia ‘Low Rider’ is a compact variety of elephant ear with glossy, heavily rippled green leaves and thick, sturdy stems. [1, 2, 3]

Plant Profile

- Size: It reaches a mature height and spread of about 2 to 2.5 feet, making it significantly smaller than standard elephant ears.

- Origin: It’s a genetic mutation (sport) of the Alocasia ‘Portora’ hybrid.

- Toxicity: It’s toxic to cats, dogs, and humans due to calcium oxalate crystals.

Care Requirements

- Light: It prefers bright indirect light and should be protected from harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

- Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering. Let the top inch or two dry out between waterings to prevent root rot.

- Humidity: It thrives in higher humidity (60%–70%) but can adapt well to average indoor conditions.

- Temperature: It prefers warm rooms between 60°F and 80°F. It can go semi-dormant and drop leaves if exposed to prolonged cold or winter chill.
